Video: Wenger: Bayern Munich deserved a penalty against Paris

FIFA’s head of global football development, veteran coach Arsene Wenger, has given his opinion on Bayern Munich’s penalty call in the first half against Paris Saint-Germain in Wednesday’s Champions League semi-final second leg at the Allianz Arena.

The strike came when Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Vitinia crossed the ball into his team’s penalty area but it hit the hands of team-mate Joao Neves, forcing Bayern’s players to call for a penalty, but Portuguese referee Joao Pinheiro ruled that play should continue.

Wenger felt that this shot should have been a penalty for the home team because Neves “raised his hand too high, even if the ball was coming from a teammate”.

FIFA regulations state that if the ball touches a player’s hand coming directly from a teammate, it is not considered a foul unless the hand is in an unreasonable position or there is no apparent intent.
