An opening that dazzled millions
Moroccan-Canadian artist Nora Fatehi took center stage at the 2026 World Cup opening ceremony at BMO Field in Toronto on Friday night before kick-off between Canada and Bosnia-Herzegovina, a spectacle that moved millions around the world.
The nearly 20-minute long ceremony was attended by a host of international stars led by Nora Fatehi who performed her official World Cup song ‘Sir Sir’ which has been trending on digital platforms since its launch.
The Bollywood star dazzled with a dazzling dance performance in front of a crowd that filled the stands, where music blended with performance movements in an artful mix of Eastern and Western cultures, prompting many to compare her performance to that of Colombian star Shakira at the tournament’s opening ceremony in Mexico.
The concert featured a number of outstanding artists who embodied Canada’s history and cultural diversity, including the heritage of its Indigenous peoples. Italian-Canadian singer Alessia Cara opened the musical show amid giant puppets representing Canada’s iconic animals, such as a whale and a conch.
French rapper Vigdream, famous for his song “Bring the Cup Home” during the 2018 World Cup in Russia, also took to the stage, where he performed “Sir Sir” with Nora Fatehi and music producer Sanjo in an enthusiastic show that fired up the crowd.

Popular Canadian singer Michael Bublé continued to entertain the audience with his soulful rendition of “Bring it on home to me,” a soul music classic written by Sam Cooke in 1962, accompanied by a choir that gave the performance a powerfully spiritual feel.
During the ceremony, violinist Aleksandar Gadzic played the national anthem of Bosnia and Herzegovina, while international star Alanis Morissette ended the ceremony by singing the Canadian national anthem, in an overwhelmingly festive atmosphere that had intensified in the stadium to mark the start of the sporting competition.
According to the Lebanese newspaper An-Nahar, Nora Fatehi, born in Toronto in 1992, is a Canadian singer, actress and dancer of Moroccan descent who has managed to gain exceptional fame in the Indian film industry since 2014, becoming one of the most popular Arab stars with a global presence.
The song “Dilbar” represented the most significant turning point of his artistic career, after it garnered hundreds of millions of views and became one of the most popular Bollywood dance songs in recent years, cementing his position as an artistic icon in India.
Noora has acted in many Hindi films in various languages including Hindi, Telugu and Malayalam. He also previously participated in the 2022 World Cup events with the song “Light Up the Sky”, using his command of Arabic, English, French and Hindi, which helped him build a wide fan base across continents.
