Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo, captain of Al-Nasr, has come under fire after failing to lead the team to a second AFC Champions League title.

Al-Nasr lost in the final round of the Asian Championship after a clean sheet defeat by Japan’s Gamba Osaka at the Awal Park Stadium on Saturday.

After the match, Ronaldo performed many controversial actions, most notably refusing to be with Al-Nasr players at the second-place silver medal ceremony.

This behavior angered former Saudi football star Ahmed Atif, who stressed that Ronaldo should have been present in this scene with the players, so that he was not a leader in name only.

Atif said in his statements to the “Dorina Gear” program. “The subject is above any player. The players should feel that they find their leader on the pitch in all circumstances.”

He added: “Even if you have a problem with the coach or one of the players, don’t leave the team, otherwise why are you the leader? The leader is not a name, but everything leads.”

“The leader has to take everything in front of the players, the public, the media and the coach. This is the character of a leader.”
