A strong attacking display saw Switzerland beat their Bosnian counterpart 4-1 in the second leg of Group B at the 2026 World Cup finals, in a game that saw a dramatic turnaround after the sending off that turned things upside down.
The two teams went into the match looking for their first win of the tournament after starting with a draw in the first round. Switzerland drew 1-1 with Qatar, while Bosnia and Herzegovina’s match against Canada ended in a 1-1 draw in Toronto.
Switzerland controlled most of the possession and had a clear possession advantage with 63% to Bosnia’s 27%.
The match saw a flurry of chances, most notably an early opportunity that Nadoje missed after a special pass when he tried to ostentatiously backheel the ball so that it eluded him and scattered the Bosnian defence.
The Bosnians responded with dangerous counter-attacks, especially through Edin Dzeko, who led the attack with great skill, but the Swiss defense and goalkeeper were able to clear the danger.
The Swiss goalkeeper also blocked Memic’s shot and brilliantly executed another Bosnian shot, which was the most dangerous in the second half.
Johann Manzambi opened the scoring for Switzerland with a powerful right-footed shot from the center of the penalty area that reached the top right corner.
After that, Tarik Muharimovic received a straight red card that turned the game on its head as Switzerland took advantage of the numerical deficiency in the opponent’s ranks and took more control of the proceedings.
Ruben Vargas added a second goal with a right-footed shot from the middle of the penalty area into the right corner of the floor, taking advantage of an assist from Brill Embolo. Then Johan Manzambi completed his double and Swiss hat-trick in the 90th minute with Ruben Vargas’ third goal.
In the third minute of stoppage time, Ermin Mehmić scored an honorable goal for Bosnia and Herzegovina with a right-footed right-footed shot from inside the penalty area following a corner kick, ending the match with a 3-1 victory for Switzerland.
With this great victory, Switzerland earned their first three points in the group, while Bosnia and Herzegovina remained without points after two rounds.
