Mostafa Shuberti, the goalkeeper of the Egyptian national team, managed to score a penalty kick against Iran in the third round of the group stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The referee awarded a penalty after Egyptian defender Mohamed Abdel Moneim mishandled one of the balls, hitting striker Mahdi Taremi in the leg.

Schubert brilliantly blocked Taremi’s shot and then preserved the Pharaohs’ advantage with a goal scored by Egyptian midfielder Mahmoud Saber in the fifth minute of the match.

The Egyptian team leads the seventh group with 4 points earned before the start of the third round, which ensures its passage to the 32nd round.

This is the Pharaohs’ first qualification for the second round in the history of participation in the World Cup, as they previously participated in 3 games during which they were eliminated from the first round.
