Norway’s Erling Haaland stole the spotlight at the wedding of his Manchester City team-mate Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma when he led guests down the famous ‘Viking Row’ celebration, a scene that has gone viral on social media.
The celebration harkens back to the Norwegian national team that helped popularize it during the 2026 World Cup, as it relies on a leader beating a drum twice to set the rhythm while participants sit in compact rows and mimic the rowing motion while chanting the word “Row.”
The Norwegian footballers introduced this celebration during the World Cup under Martin Odegaard after the victory over Brazil, before Haaland this time moved it to the atmosphere of a wedding ceremony.
Donnarumma married the partner of his life, Alicia Elefante, in a lavish ceremony in Italy that was witnessed by a host of football stars, including Sandro Tonali, Niccolò Barella and AC Milan legend Paolo Maldini.
During the ceremony, Haaland took the stage and held a drum to lead dozens of guests in a celebratory performance while everyone sat on the ground, mimicking the motion of rowing to the beat of the drums.
The Norwegian striker, who celebrated his 26th birthday a few days ago, added a fun atmosphere to the party as he burst out laughing at one point and stopped to explain the proper way to celebrate to one of the guests.
The audience interacted with the circulating footage as one fan wrote: “No one hates this man,” while another commented. “I can’t stop laughing… looks like a fun wedding,” while a third wrote: The Sun newspaper.
Holland attended the ceremony accompanied by his partner Isabelle Haugesing Johansson, while Donnarumma celebrated his wedding with his childhood sweetheart, with whom he had their first child in 2024.
