France captain Kylian Mbappe continued to make history at the 2026 World Cup after scoring against Iraq in the second round of the group stage between the two teams.
Mbappe opened the scoring for France in the 14th minute after curling a powerful left-footed shot into the back of the net to give the Roosters an early lead.
The star of the French national team reached 3 goals in the current World Cup tournament, continuing to chase the best scorer of Argentina, Lionel Messi, with 4 goals.
Mbappe’s achievement was not limited to being this season’s top scorer, but he continued his progress on the all-time World Cup goalscoring list after he scored his 15th goal of the tournament, level with Brazilian legend Ronaldo Nazario for third.

The French star also surpassed German legend Gerd Müller, who scored 14 goals, and is just one goal away from matching the record of historic runner-up Miroslav Klose, who has 16 goals.
Mbappe, on the other hand, is now just three goals clear of all-time top goalscorer Messi, who scored 18 goals in World Cup finals, confirming the France star as one of the most popular candidates to break more records in the coming years.
