The Norwegian national team officially booked its place in the 32nd round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after beating its Senegalese counterpart 3-2 in the 2nd round of the group stage.
Norway took their lead in Group 9 to 4 points, behind leaders France with 6 points, while Senegal team earned no points to finish third, level with fourth-placed Iraq.
The real threat for Norway began minutes before the end of the first half when Marcus Pedersen capitalized on a fatal mistake by Senegalese defender Kalidou Koulibaly to score the first goal in the 43rd minute to give his country the lead before heading to the dressing room.
Haaland continues to make history
Early in the second half, Erling Haaland established himself as the star of the match when he scored Norway’s second goal in the 48th minute, taking advantage of a perfect pass that stopped the goal and managed to get the ball past goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

Senegal did not give up as Ismaila Sarri quickly reduced the deficit by scoring his country’s first goal in the 53rd minute to return the match to a competitive atmosphere.
But Holland struck again in the 58th minute, capitalizing on a defensive error in the box to score his second personal goal and third for Norway to take his tally to four in the current World Cup campaign.
A late wake-up call for Senegal
In the final minutes, the Senegal team tried to get back into the game and Ismaila Sar was able to score his second personal goal and Senegal’s second goal in the third minute of stoppage time, but the goal came late and was not enough to avoid the loss.
With the victory, Norway secured a place in the round of 32, while Senegal’s chances were greatly complicated before they face Iraq in the final round of the group stage.
