A decisive intervention saves the Algerian national team in front of the fans
The final minutes of the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup final between Algeria’s USM Algiers and Egypt’s Zamalek saw a lot of drama, turning the result from Zamalek’s superiority to a fateful victory for the hosts.
Zamalek scored a solo goal for their Brazilian star (substitute) Juan Bezera, but the video technology frustrated the whites as the Mauritanian referee waved for Dahham to review the kick-off and he found a handball against Egyptian defender Hossam Abdel Majid.
Events took a turn in the ensuing moments as Morocco’s Mahmoud Bentaek contested the award of a penalty, earning a second yellow card and the referee showing a red card, before Ahmed Khalidi scored the decisive winner in the 90+8th minute.
Ahmed Khaled scored the only goal of the match from the penalty spot
