The comparison between the two football legends continues
Former Saudi Arabian football star Ahmed Atif refused to consider Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo the best, despite his double against Uzbekistan at the 2026 World Cup, believing that his Argentinian rival Lionel Messi is better than him.
Ronaldo led Uzbekistan to a 5-0 win over Portugal in the second round of the 2026 World Cup group stage at Houston Stadium today, Tuesday.
After the match, Atif said during the “Dorena Gir” program of “Saudi Arabia” TV channel. “Messi scores from nothing and he creates for himself, but Ronaldo at this age needs to create one for himself.”
“Ronaldo is a legend and nobody can talk about him. He is one of the legends of football, but Messi is different.”
He concluded. “Ronaldo is the second best player in the world after Messi. Messi is the one who does everything on the pitch in terms of passing, dribbling, shooting and leading Argentina to victory.”
When asked what his expectations are between Messi and Ronaldo if they meet at the 2026 World Cup, Atif said: “I expect Argentina to win, not Portugal.”
It is noteworthy that the teams of Portugal and Argentina can meet in the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup if they pass the 32nd and 8th final matches, respectively.
