A great gesture
King Abdullah II and Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II witnessed Jordan’s early exit from the 2026 World Cup after their second straight defeat to Algeria (1-2) in the tenth group stage at San Francisco’s Bay Arena.
Jordan’s monarch made a remarkable appearance accompanying the crown prince in the stands, reports London-based Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper, in a clear message of support for the “starch” players, who officially bid farewell to the tournament after two consecutive defeats to Austria (1-3) and then Algeria, before the final showdown against Argentina.
According to the Royal Court, the royal presence reflected the desire of the Jordanian leadership to support the national team in its first historic appearance at the World Cup finals, despite disappointing results that prevented the dream of qualifying for the round of 32.
The crown prince visited the players’ dressing room after the game and congratulated them on their historic turnout, a morale-boosting gesture aimed at boosting the team’s morale ahead of the final showdown against Argentina, which took on an honorable character after the exit was officially decided.
