Video: Despite the double lead, Egypt bid farewell to the World Cup in a crazy scenario against Argentina.

Today, on Tuesday evening, the Egyptian national team said goodbye to the World Cup after losing to the World Cup 2026 in a crazy scenario (3-2) in the 1/8 finals of the tournament.

The Pharaohs took an early lead with two goals in the 15th and 67th minutes through Yasser Ibrahim and Mostafa Zico, before Christian Romero scored Argentina’s first goal in the 79th minute and Lionel Messi equalized in the 84th minute.

In the 90th + 2nd minute, Enzo Fernandez scored the decisive tango winner to send Argentina into the World Cup quarter-finals, pending the winner of Tuesday night’s Switzerland-Colombia match.

The match started quietly for both teams, with Argentina relatively in possession but without any real threat to the Pharaohs’ goal.

The Egyptian national team managed to take the first goal in the 15th minute through Yasser Ibrahim’s header, taking advantage of Marwan Attia’s perfect pass.

In the 21st minute, Egypt’s goalkeeper Mostafa Shubert unmistakably saved Argentina’s captain Lionel Messi’s penalty kick, preserving the advantage of the “Pharaohs”.

In addition to the penalty, Schubert saved Egypt from two chances in the first half with two outstanding saves against Alexis McAllister and Julian Alvarez as the Pharaohs took a 1-0 lead.

Argentina began the second half with intense pressing to try and equalize the Egyptian players’ considerable retreat to defend and rely on counter-attacks.

Egypt scored a second goal through Mostafa Zico in the 58th minute, but French referee Francois Lettxer disallowed it, returning to video technology, due to a foul on Marwan Attia early in the attack.

In the 67th minute, Zico returned to score the second goal for the Pharaohs, following a flawless counter-attack by Mohamed Salah and feeding it to Haitham Hassan, who played a superb pass to Zico and slotted it into the net with one touch.

After the second goal of the “Pharaohs”, the Argentine team applied strong pressure and scored a goal in the 79th minute with a header from Cristian Romero, taking advantage of Messi’s pass.

In the 84th minute, Messi scored the equalizer with a rocket from inside the penalty area after the ball was made in front of him following an attack initiated by Leo.

The decisive winning goal for Argentina was scored by Enzo Fernandez with a header in the 90+2 minutes, after a quick counterattack by the Tango players.

Egypt qualified for the quarter-finals by beating Australia on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regulation and extra time.

On the other hand, the Argentine national team advanced to the same stage, defeating Cape Verde (3-2), after the match was extended to two extra periods.
