In the first round of Group A of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the Czech Republic-South Korea match witnessed a lot of excitement after the two teams exchanged goals in the second half.
The Czech Republic opened the scoring in the 59th minute through Ladislav Krejci, who capitalized on Vladimir Soval’s impressive long-range throw into the box and rose above them to head home from close range to give his country a 1-0 lead.
But South Korea’s response was not long in coming as Hwang In-beom did a superb job of equalizing in the 67th minute after receiving a pass in the penalty area before lifting the ball over goalkeeper Matej Kovar with an artistic touch, who got ahead of the keeper and into the net to claim a 1-1 draw.
The showdown erupted in the dying minutes when the Czech Republic thought they had taken the lead again in the 77th minute through Tomas Soucek after he had struck a superb ball into the net. However, Egyptian referee Amin Omar stopped the celebration and decided to review the game using video technology.
After reviewing the kick, the referee disallowed the goal due to an offside situation in the build-up, so the result remained the same, much to the shock of the Czech players.
It took just a few minutes for the Korean side to take advantage as Hwang In-beom delivered a perfect pass into the box in the 80th minute and Oh Hyun-gyu met it with a free kick that went straight into the net to give South Korea a 2-1 lead and complete a thrilling comeback.
The match will be held within the framework of the tournament of the first group, in which the teams of Mexico and South Africa are also included. Mexico began their tournament by beating South Africa 2-0 in their opening group game.
