The Red Devils made a surprise comeback

Today, on Wednesday evening, the Belgian national team retained its place in the 1/16 finals of the 2026 World Cup after a dramatic victory over Senegal (3-2) in the 32nd final of the tournament at the “Seattle” stadium in the United States of America.

Habib Diarra opened the scoring for Senegal in the 25th minute after he followed up a rebound off the post after Ismaila Sarr’s header.

Sarr added to the scoring in the 51st minute with a wonderful goal, controlling a long pass with his chest before firing a powerful shot past veteran Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois to seal the Senegalese’s lead.

Before the match was going to end with a Senegal victory, the Belgian team suddenly woke up, scoring two consecutive goals in the 86th and 89th minutes by Romelu Lukaku and Youri Tillmans to make the score 2-2.

The match was extended to extra time which saw the Red Devils win a decisive victory thanks to a penalty taken by Yuri Thielemans himself in the 120th minute + 5.

With this victory, the Belgian team booked a date in the 1/8 finals with the winner of the meeting with the USA and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
