Video: bruises and torn shirt. The owner of Nottingham is the hero of the new crisis in Greece

The stands of the final of the Euroleague basketball championship in Athens witnessed a controversial incident on Sunday evening after the owner of the English club “Nottingham Forest” Evangelos Marinkis got into an argument in the stands after the match between Olympiakos and Real Madrid.

Marinikis, 58, attended the match as the owner of Olympiacos to watch his team’s clash with Real Madrid, which ended with Olympiacos winning 92-85 in the tournament final.

Videos circulating on social media showed Marinkis wearing a torn shirt and clearly bruised face after the incident as he was involved in a heated argument inside the stands, the BBC reports.

The video clips do not show the other side of the argument, but Greek media say the argument was with Grigoris Demetriadis, the nephew of Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, according to the British Broadcasting Corporation.

Marinquis is known for his controversial record on the sporting field, having previously faced sanctions in England 2024 after he was found guilty of misconduct and was banned for five matches for his behavior towards the referees in a Premier League match against Fulham.

His name also came to the fore a few months later when the FA deemed Nottingham Forest “an unprecedented attack on the integrity of referees” following a social media post in which the club criticized assistant referee Stuart Atwell.

Although Marinkis confirmed at the time that he had “no regrets” about his speech about “serious errors” in refereeing, Nottingham Forest were hit with a £750,000 fine after the FA described the publication as “irresponsible and unfortunate”.
