France captain Kylian Mbappe has become the second highest goalscorer in World Cup history after overtaking former German Miroslav Klose, ahead of Argentina’s leading scorer Lionel Messi.

Mbappe scored a stunning goal in the last minute of the first half for his country against Sweden this Wednesday morning in the 32nd round of the ongoing tournament in the United States of America, Canada and Mexico.

Mbappe flicked the ball into the far corner after Ousmane Dembele’s pass.

Mbappe took his tally to 17 goals, overtaking Klose, who has 16 goals, to take second place on the goalscoring list, according to Statsfoot statistics.

Mbappe is just two goals clear of Messi, who currently holds the all-time top scorer title, sparking competition for the rest of the season.
