Video: Algeria hold Austria to a draw… and secure a place in the last 32

Algeria qualified for the round of 32 of the 2026 World Cup after a 3-3 draw with Austria in the early hours of Sunday.

With this result, the Algerian team will meet its Swiss counterpart in the 32nd final.

After the 2014 tournament, the Algerian national team has passed the first round of the World Cup for the second time.

Austrian striker Marko Arnautovic gave his country the lead in the 28th minute, but Rafik Belghali managed to equalize with a great individual effort in the first half.

The goal came after Belgali burst into the box before rounding an Austrian defender before firing a shot into the net that goalkeeper Alexander Schlager was unable to stop.

Marcel Sabitzer scored the second goal for Austria in the 55th minute with a great strike, and the Algerian defense was clueless.

In the 60th minute, Algerian midfielder Houssem Ouar sent a cross to Riyad Mahrez, who was standing in the empty net of his goalkeeper and had no difficulty in sending the ball into the goal.
Riyad Mahrez scored Algeria’s third late in the second half and Sasa Kalajdzic responded with a distinctive header for Austria to equalize in the dying minutes.
