Al-Raqi gets a hard-fought victory in the Roshen League
Al-Ahly scored a valuable win over their counterparts Al-Taaun, 2 goals to 1, in the 32nd round match of the Roshan Professional League Championship between the two sides this Monday evening.
With this win, Al-Raqi took their tally to 75 points, third in the Roshen League table, while Al-Taaun’s tally stood at 52 points and sixth.
Ivan Toni (17th minute) and Roger Ibanez (79th minute) scored Al-Ahly’s double, while Angelo Fulgini scored Al-Taawan’s only goal (55th minute).

The match started strongly from Al-Ahly as Brazilian Roger Ibanez made a strong start from back to front and penetrated everyone until he reached Al-Taawoon’s goal and fired wide in the second minute.
In the 13th minute, Saleh Abu Al-Shamat almost scored Al-Ahly’s first goal with a pass from inside the penalty area, then hit the ball and Lagami cleared it off the goal line.
Ivan Toni was able to translate the control of Al-Ahli with the first goal in the 17th minute with a great header.
In the 38th minute of the first half, the referee decided to cancel Al-Taaoon’s goal due to Martinez’s handball.
The game started with Al-Ahly goalkeeper Abdul Rahman Al-Sanabi’s shot hitting Martinez, and then the referee waved the game away.
In the 55th minute of the second half, Al-Taawoun managed to equalize with a shot in the penalty area through Volgini, which Al-Sanbi could not handle.
The goal came amid apparent defensive sloppiness on the part of Al-Ahly players, and Najm Al-Taawoon converted it brilliantly into the net.
After the equaliser, the encounter heated up with attacks from both sides until the 60th minute saw a dangerous chance from Fulgini, who crossed the left channel and shot, but the Al-Ahli goalkeeper shone.
In the 68th minute, Ziad Al-Juhani took a powerful shot in the Al-Taawoon area after a great pass, but Milson saved.
Al Ahly continued to try as Toni’s header went wide of the post in the 71st minute.

Under intense pressure from both teams, Ibanez managed to score a great goal with a stunning header in the 78th minute of the second half.
Ibanez took advantage of the corner kick, leaping above everyone else and unleashing a stunning header that was unstoppable and unanswered.

The win is a valuable gift for Al-Ittihad in their battle with Al-Taawan for the fifth place in the elite AFC Champions League play-offs.
Al-Ittihad currently move up to fifth place on goal difference over Al-Taawoon with the advantage of the second leg having played 31 matches to Al-Sukari’s 32.
Al-Ittihad will therefore have the best chance of qualifying for the play-offs after a difficult season at all levels.
