Qatar were knocked out of the World Cup at the group stage, losing 3-1 to Bosnia and Herzegovina in the third round of the second group tonight.
Karim Alaibegovic scored a hat-trick for Bosnia and Herzegovina (29th minute).
Qatar’s Sultan Al-Breik (34th own goal) and Ermin Mahmic (81st minute), and Al-Annabi’s goal was scored by Hassan Al-Haidos, Al-Annabi’s goal in the 42nd minute.
Bosnia increased their score to 4 points in 3rd place and have a good chance to qualify for the round of 32, among the top 8 teams that finished 3rd in the group stage and will have to wait for the results in the remaining groups.
While Qatar finished fourth and last with one point, exiting the finals early, becoming the third Arab team to exit after Tunisia and Jordan.
The match witnessed plenty of excitement as Bosnia opened the scoring in the 29th minute through Karim Alaibegovic with a powerful shot that found its way into the Qatari net.
Qatar rose to try and equalize and Akram Afif missed a genuine tackle after a Bosnia defender got to him and chipped the ball past the keeper.
As part of Bosnia’s special attack, the cross was hit by Sultan Al-Breik and entered Qatar’s goal in the 34th minute.
Qatar came on strong in the closing minutes of the first half and launched several dangerous attacks before Hassan Al-Haydos scored for Al-Anabi in the 42nd minute and Al-Qaim then grabbed the equalizer to end the first half 2-1 to Bosnia.
The two teams battled for a goal in the second half amid much cheering from the players until Ermin Mahmic killed off Qatar’s hopes with a third goal in the 80th minute.
