Lopez quickly attracted attention in Madrid, although her path to the top was not without major obstacles.
She lost her mother to a brain tumor when she was just 11 years old. When her mother’s condition worsened and her father was in the hospital, Melado and her Madrid teammates helped Lopez get into training and kept her busy.
From there, Lopez grew at an astonishing rate. In the year In 2019, she was named the Most Valuable Player in LaLiga after scoring seven goals for the under-12 girls team.
She caught the eye by scoring 60 goals in 17 games in the 2020-21 Youth League, and started her journey in the country’s juniors.
In September 2021, at the age of 15 years and 42 days, López became the youngest player to feature in the Spanish top flight when she came off the bench against Athletic Bilbao.
“She really had talent — I’ve always told her that,” Melado said.
“And I pushed her hard, because if she really wanted to, she always had to give her best and she always did. She was one of the hardest workers and she never complained once.”

In the year In 2022, perennial Spanish champions Barcelona signed Lopez on her 16th birthday and two months later she became the youngest debutant in the club’s professional history.
She wears the number 30 worn by Lionel Messi when he broke into the Barça first team.
During that season, López became Barcelona’s first ever Champions League debutant, and became the youngest player to score in Liga F.
If her fans weren’t already excited by her potential, they were in October when she was named MVP after Spain won the U17 World Cup in India.
López made her senior Spain debut in February 2024 in the semi-finals of the Nations League, replacing national icon Jenni Hermoso. At 17 years, six months and 27 days, she became the youngest in her country.
