Are we witnessing the deal of the century?
Bayern Munich are in a state of confusion and anxiety over the future of their French star Michael Ulysses after rejecting an unofficial request to extend his contract until 2029 and deleting pictures of the Bavarian club’s shirt from their social media pages, while Real Madrid follow up on interest in their official player.
Bayern are struggling to deal with Olissei, who they described as “difficult to understand and very elusive”, especially after he initially turned down a contract extension request at the start of the year without announcing his final stance yet, causing panic inside the Arenalis, according to German publication Kicker, which has consulted with club sources.
The Bavarian club are looking to extend the player’s contract as soon as possible, recognizing that he deserves a salary commensurate with his status, especially after extending Gamal Musiala’s contract at an estimated salary of around €25 million per year, but Olissi’s secrecy and off-field uncertainty complicate negotiations.
Real Madrid, on the other hand, released an official statement last weekend denying any direct or indirect contact with the player or his representatives, emphasizing the “excellent institutional relationship” they have with Bayern Munich and expressing regret for “spreading baseless speculation”.
But Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo revealed that the statement was intended to protect Real from a potential suit by Bayern Munich, confirming that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez had “fell in love with Olissi” and that the Frenchman was the star he had promised to sign during the last presidential election.
German newspaper “Bild” clarified that “Bayern” announced that they do not intend to sell the player even for 200 million euros, but will open the door to his departure if 220 million euros exceeds the offer, with the aim of surpassing the record transfer of Neymar Jr. to “Paris Saint-Germain” for 2,207 million euros.
Olissi, who joined Bayern from Crystal Palace two years ago, showed his talent again in France’s 3-1 win over Senegal at the World Cup where he set up a goal for Kylian Mbappe, a partnership many would love to see at club level, especially at Real Madrid.
Notably, Olisey’s camp issued a similar statement to Bayern Munich, according to Germany’s Sky, denying any links to Real Madrid, but his mysterious behavior and deletion of pictures of the Bavarian club from his personal accounts leaves the door open to speculation and presents Bayern with a serious challenge that requires the Frenchman to keep “the French on their nerves” at the best of times.
