“I told myself that I will not waste my energy – I will shout when it is necessary, I will shout when I hear voices or steps nearby,” she said.
“I don’t know how I stayed because my left leg was cemented. I couldn’t move. My temple was pressed against a rock.”
Diana said she found hope when she felt the Bible under her.
“I started my recovery there,” she said.
In the darkness of the ruins, she could see “a speck of light that looked like the moon.”
She said her rescue came after she heard her brother calling her name.
“I said to myself, this is my only chance. I screamed at the top of my lungs… I screamed ‘Here I am’ with all my might, and he said, ‘I’ve got you, and I promise I won’t leave until I get you out.'”
He kept his promise, and followed up with an intensive rescue operation to pull both mother and child from the wreckage Thursday night.
When the earthquake hit, Diana suffered injuries to both her legs, while Juan fortunately suffered minor injuries.
