About a month ago, Valve he announced that it will grow its long-running Steam Deck Verified program to Steam machine currently shippingoffering a different level of Steam navigation and playability on new consoles for the living room. Now that the ratings started appearing on the Steam store pages last night (under the “Learn More” link next to Steam Deck Compatibility), we found out that Valve is still “learning” about the “Steam Machine” for many games that the Steam Deck is too weak to run properly.
Steam Machine compatibility for most Steam games is easy to figure out, of course. If a game has already been confirmed on Steam Deck, it appears that it has been confirmed to be confirmed on Steam Machine, as far as we can tell. On the other hand, the games they have it has already been confirmed that it will not work with SteamOS (which can happen for various reasons) apparently doesn’t work on the SteamOS-powered Steam Machine.
In the middle of this problem is where the Steam Machine authentication badge can be very useful. These are games that Valve has confirmed will be available on SteamOS, but which the old, ported Steam Deck can’t handle. 1200×800, 30 fps standard that Valve wants for default settings (for Steam Machine, this requirement increases to 1080p and 30fps). On the Steam Store, the game appears as “Unsupported” on Steam Deck because “the game’s settings cannot be adjusted to run properly on Steam Deck” or “the game requires manual graphics adjustments to run properly on Steam Deck.”
