After months of waiting, Valve announced that the Steam Machine, its new living room PC, it will start at $1,049 and will start selling from June 29.
You can now register your interest to purchase a Steam Machine as part of the reservation system. In order to offer the best games to people who want to buy them, Valve will update everyone in the queue on Thursday at 1PM ET. After that, everyone who registers their interest will be added to the end of the waiting list. The first emails giving people the chance to buy will go out on June 29th.
Valve will sell four Steam Machine configurations:
The 2TB configuration will also come with two interchangeable panels, “red cloth” and “solid walnut,” in addition to black.
Steam consoles are more expensive than competing consoles: the digital PS5 costs $599.99, the Xbox Series X costs $649.99, and the PS5 Pro costs $899.99. (And that’s when they both got expensive.) The Steam system also isn’t exactly optimized for those options; based on a comment by my friend Sean HollisterThe Steam Machine’s performance is similar to that of the PS5, but almost six years after the PS5 was first launched.
However, the main value of the Steam Machine is that it can play your library of Steam games that you may have collected over the years (or decades), not only PlayStation games, but also a complete Linux PC that you can customize to your heart’s content. Valve also says that it is selling the Steam Machine for the price of its components only rather than providing a price.
The price of the Steam Machine has been one of the biggest questions about the new device since it was announced. Valve we can spend hours with the Steam Machine, the new Steam Controller, and a Steam Frame VR title around the end of 2025, and we left impressed. At the time, Valve said it would start shipping new devices in early 2026. in FebruaryThe company announced that the recall and continued storage has caused it to revise its prices and shipping plans. And in March, Valve said in a blog post that “it will be shipping all three items this year.”
Valve has yet to share pricing or release details about the Steam Frame.
