Vaibhav Suryavanshi became the joint-second-fastest player to reach 1,000 runs in the Indian Premier League on Friday but could not lift Rajasthan Royals to victory as Shubman Gill posted a score of 104 to book Gujarat Titans a place in Sunday’s final.
The Titans will face Royal Challengers Bangalore in Sunday’s final, after Gill’s team chased down Rajasthan’s 214 to secure a seven-wicket victory.
While the Royals’ top order failed to score runs, 15-year-old Suryavanshi went on to score a sensational 96 off 47 deliveries.
He opened the match with 932 runs from 22 IPL appearances before scoring a half-century off 31 deliveries. It came after he equaled the fastest 50 in the IPL playoffs off 16 balls during Wednesday’s win over Sunrisers Hyderabad.
It was his fifth 50 of the season and sixth of his IPL career, with Suryavanshi showing no mercy to the Gujarat Titans bowlers, hitting six fours and two sixes.
Suryavanshi has scored two centuries in the IPL so far this season
He stepped on the gas pedal after his 50 before flying a short delivery from Kagiso Rabada, hitting four more boundaries and a six, sending the ball in the air to deep third, where he was caught by Gill.
Despite agonizingly missing out on what would have been his second century in the 2026 IPL season, Suryavanshi is equal to Lendl Simmons as the second fastest player to reach 1,000 IPL runs in 23 innings.
Only Shaun Marsh achieved the feat faster, reaching the milestone in 21 innings.

“It was, I can’t put it into words,” Royals captain Ryan Parag said. “There’s a way where you go and you slug and you get a lot of runs. But the way he’s batted, it’s not just slugging, it’s not blind slugging, you can’t do what he did today if you just go off one ball.
“He calculates and assesses the situation and does everything right. I still don’t understand how? But hopefully he will continue to do it.
“Hopefully, he represents our country and continues to represent the Royals and bring us our second championship.”

During the IPL match between Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans, Sai Sudharsan accidentally dropped his bat and it fell into his own wicket.
Suryavanshi was also seven runs away from breaking his highest score in the IPL this season, a 103, which he made against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 25.
Rajasthan Royals were in trouble midway through their innings with the loss of four wickets for 109 runs in 12 overs. Rabada and Jason Holder were the best bowlers for the Titans, taking a wicket each, while Mohammad Siraj dismissed Yasswi Jaiswal for one run in just two balls.
Rabada walked Dhruv Jurel for seven runs off six balls before Ravindra Jadeja steadied the ship. He scored 45 off 35 balls before being forced to retire due to injury.

While a setback for the Royals, Suryavanshi stood up, holding the run rate, taking the Royals to within 28 runs of the 200-run mark before being dismissed by Rabada.
Donovan Ferreira (38), Ryan Parag (11), Dasun Shanaka (3) and Jofra Archer (7) saw out the rest of the innings as Royals set the Titans a target of 215 to win.

After Suryavanshi impressed, Gill sent the crowd into a frenzy at the PCA New Cricket Stadium as he cruised to 104 off just 53 deliveries.
He hit 15 fours and three sixes to bring up his fifth century in IPL cricket before being dismissed by Archer.
Fellow opener Sai Sudharson also produced a dominant display with the bat, scoring 58 off 32 deliveries, as the Titans moved to 182-2 after 15 overs.
Jos Buttler came to the crease after Sudharson was dismissed for an unbeaten score of 9 as Washington Sundar (16) and Rahul Tewatia (17*) helped the Titans book their place in the final.
They have played Royal Challengers Bangalore three times this year, losing two of them, including their most recent qualifier final game earlier this week, where they were beaten by 92 runs.
