Vaibhav Suryavanshi fell agonizingly short of scoring the fastest century in IPL history but broke Chris Gayle’s 14-year-old record for most sixes in a season after another scintillating display for Rajasthan Royals.
The 15-year-old prodigy scored 97 off 29 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad, with 12 sixes and five fours at a strike-rate of 334.48.
This took Suryavanshi to 65 sixes in the 2026 IPL season, surpassing West Indies star Gayle’s record of 53 big-hitting in 2012.
Gayle’s fastest 30-ball IPL century record to Suryavanshi was also in his sights but he was dismissed – cutting a high delivery from Prafulla Hinge to Ravichandran Smarn at third man – three runs shy of his century as the Sunrisers bowling line-up featured Kumen Pattez behind Australia captain Patten. attack
Suryavansi’s meteoric rise to professional cricket as a 14-year-old debutant has made him no stranger to the record books.
He missed the record by five-and-a-half years when he became the youngest IPL centurion and the youngest player – and fastest with the ball – to reach 1,000 runs in T20 cricket.
