Vaibhav Suryavanshi, 15, got India’s first call-up to tour England and Ireland

Teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi earned his first international call-up by making India’s T20 squad for the tour of England and Ireland.

If he plays, the 15-year-old will break Sachin Tendulkar’s record as the youngest player to play for India. Tendulkar was 16 years 205 days old at the time of the 1989 One Day International against Pakistan.

The call-up comes on the back of Suryavanshi’s stunning Indian Premier League campaign, where he scored 776 runs in 16 innings at a strike rate of 237.30 for Rajasthan Royals.

The left-hander was named the IPL Most Valuable Player and also picked up the Emerging Player Award and the Orange Cap, given to the highest run scorer.

He scored 175 runs in February India beat England in U-19 World Cup final.

India will play two matches in Ireland later this month, followed by five T20Is in England in July.

Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer has been made the new captain in place of Suryakumar Yadav, who was dropped from the squad.

Yadav led India to victory in the T20 World Cup in March.
