World No. 1 Nellie Korda cruised to her first Women’s Open title by shooting the lowest round of 67 of the day, leaving her just two shots behind after struggling at the US Women’s Open on Thursday.
The American shot five birdies and just one bogey, compared to four bogeys and two birdies in round one, as he settled on the course on Friday.
But Alison Lee shot a second-round 68 to grab a share of the lead, joining Yin in running at four-under 138 atop a crowded leaderboard.
Opening-round leaders Jennifer Kupcho, Se Young Kim and Mexico’s Gabby Lopez were in a group of six at 3-under 139, while Korda and three others were at 140.
“Basically winning in my backyard, where I grew up, would be awesome,” Lee said.
“I don’t want to get ahead of myself but if you had told me I would be in this place at the beginning of the week, I would probably have started crying.
“I’m not going to lie, it was very difficult.
“I went through a few phases, a few slumps, if you want to call it that, in my career, even when I was like 15 years old. … No matter what I did, no matter how much I practiced, it just wasn’t going my way.”
The 31-year-old Lee is a two-time Solheim Cup participant, but has yet to win on the LPGA Tour while managing just two top-10 finishes in 44 majors.
Still took most of last year off after giving birth to her son Levi in 2024 but is still determined to fight for her first Tour win.
of England Charlie lol Still behind the leaders after a bogey on the 18th hole took him one-over-par for the day, and seven behind Lee and Yin.
Lottie Wade Also survived the cut after a second plus-two round that saw him hit four bogeys and two birdies.
Only two players managed a bogey-free round on Friday – including China’s Yin, who half-jokingly called Rivera “passive aggressive” despite being the only player in the field to shoot two sub-70 rounds so far.
“I love it,” Yin said. “I always say the harder (the course), the better.”
Kim trailed Kupchor by one shot after the opening round, and led early in the second despite shooting one over on the front nine.
He dropped a share of his lead in one of the last groups of the day by bogeying the 18th. Kupcho crashed to 73 in the second round on Thursday after scoring just 66 so far in the tournament.
Madeleine Sagstrom, who is seven months pregnant, improved on her round one performance and hit two birdies, but with a collection of bogeys alongside them, her five-over 76 in round two meant she didn’t make the cut.
Ireland’s Leona Maguire struggled to shoot her nine-over 75 after two rounds and so didn’t make the cut either.
