US sprinter Noah Lyles sets world best 150m time at Golden Spike | Running games

Lyles clocked 14.67 seconds, edging out South Africa’s Dambile to take the gold while Australian teenager Gout Gout finished third.

United States sprinter Noah Lyles set a new world record in the 150 meters, clocking 14.67 seconds at the Golden Spike meet in the eastern city of Ostrava in the Czech Republic.

The 28-year-old Lyles on Tuesday beat the personal best of 14.72 set by Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson in Florida in April.

In Ostrava, Lyles beat Sinesipho Dambile of South Africa with 14.78, while the Australian teenager. Gout disease finished third in 14.96.

Earlier this month, Lyles won the Wanda Diamond League meet in Rome with a 9.88 in the 100m, his fastest time since winning gold at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The super powerhouse, anime fan has been making strong performances both on and off the field throughout the year so far, and was named on Time100’s most influential people list.

Dutch champion Femke Broeders-Bol had to bow out against Swiss Audrey Werro in her debut outdoor 800m.

Broeders-Bol, 26, switched from the 400m hurdles, in which she won two world gold medals, to finish second in 1 minute 57.13 seconds.

He said: “It was so good that I really like racing in Ostrava.”

Broeders-Bol also claimed several medals as the anchor leg in the 4x400m relay team, most notably gold in the medley event at the Paris Olympics.

He ran his first 800m since 2017 in February, setting a world record of 1 minute 59.07 seconds before pulling out of the entire indoor season to nurse a foot injury.

The 22-year-old Werro won in 1 minute 54.45 seconds, half a second behind his start in March, after edging out Broeders-Bol with 200 meters to go.

“It was a crazy race, but the timing is really good, so I’m happy,” said Werro.

After setting the eighth-best time, she was one second behind the previous world record of 1:53.28 set in 1983 by then-Czechoslovak Jarmila Kratochvilova, who watched the race from the stands.

South Africa’s 20-year-old Bayanda Walaza won the men’s 100m when he clocked 9.94 seconds, beating Emmanuel Eseme of Cameroon by 9.99 seconds.

US favorites Ronnie Baker and Jordan Anthony were relegated to fourth and fifth place, respectively, over 10 seconds behind.
