US soldier killed in Iraq during “controlled explosion” of an Iranian drone | Drone Hits the News

The death brings to 17 the number of US soldiers killed since the start of the US-Israel conflict in Iran.

The United States military has announced the death of another soldier, saying he was killed in northern Iraq “during an explosion of unexploded ordnance” from a downed Iranian jet.

In a statement on Sunday, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said the soldier died on July 18 and a second was slightly injured during the bombing.

It did not name the soldier who died.

Saturday’s death brought the number of US military personnel killed since the US and Israel launched their war on Iran to 17. The war began on February 28.

Two more US military personnel were killed in an Iranian airstrike in Jordan on Friday, while a third went missing. CENTCOM said on Monday that unidentified remains have been found at the site and that an investigation is underway to identify the remains.

The announcement came as the US attacked Iran for the eighth night in a row, and Tehran fired at US missiles in the Gulf in retaliation.

The two countries have been at loggerheads in recent days as a cease-fire agreement signed last month has broken down and the fight for control of the Strait of Hormuz, a key shipping route, has intensified.

The conflict has killed tens of thousands of people, mostly in Iran and Lebanon, and has led to massive power outages and inflation scares around the world.

Iran has deployed hundreds of low-cost and high-explosive one-way drones – dubbed “Shahds” by Iran – on targets across the Gulf since its launch.

Reports suggest that the Shahed drones can be manufactured for $30,000 each, making mass airstrikes affordable for Iran. The connectors used to shoot them can cost millions of dollars each, and they don’t get what they want.

On Sunday, Iranian media reported that the US carried out an attack near the city of Sirik in southern Iran, and near Shadegan, near the border with Iraq. An explosion was later reported in Abadan, southwestern Iran.

Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization has also condemned the US attack on the site of a nuclear plant under construction in Darkhovin, Iran’s Mehr news agency reported. The International Atomic Energy Agency said it was investigating reports of the attack overnight, and said the facility was very early.

In response to the latest strikes, Iran attacked US military bases and missiles at the Al-Adiri camp in Kuwait and the Ali Al Salem airport, according to Iranian state television.

The Kuwaiti government said a desalination plant had been attacked for a second day, sparking a fire, which it called a direct attack on civilian needs.

Bahraini air defenses also foiled an Iranian attack on Sunday, Bahraini state television reported, as sirens sounded in Jordan, where the military said it shot down three Iranian missiles. Jordan called Iran’s case against the recent protests.
