Fitzpatrick’s return to the top of the game has been matched by his younger brother Alex, also capturing the title.
The siblings’ pair of wins in New Orleans earned Alex a two-year PGA Tour card and gave the 27-year-old the lead after 54 holes before finishing fourth at last week’s Troost Championship.
“We haven’t been in a feud together yet but I imagine it’s going to be a weird feeling when the time comes,” Matt Fitzpatrick said.
“I’m more impressed than anything. I’m very proud of him for the way he’s playing. I’m probably known as Alex’s brother now, as opposed to Matt’s brother.”
At the end of 2025, Alex Fitzpatrick was ranked 203rd in the world but has since risen significantly to 83rd and will be looking to make a hugely impressive joint 17th in his lone major appearance to date at Hoylake at the 2023 Open Championship.
However, while Matt Fitzpatrick has used a data-driven approach in his quest to add to his US Open win at Brookline four years ago – he’s well known for writing detailed notes after every shot – he says his approach on and off the course isn’t mirrored by his younger brother.
“He’s messy, I’d say. We shared a bathroom last week, actually, in the house we shared, and it was a little messier than my side of the bathroom,” Matt laughed.
“I think he probably wanted to make his own way. He’s not really numbers oriented. I like to know the numbers.
“I personally think it’s a good practice, not to be over-analytical. I think Alex is definitely going more with the flow. He’s doing a good job in the moment he’s in.”
