US launches ‘powerful’ attack on Iran after attack on US troops.

The United States military has announced that it has launched an attack on Iran in retaliation for a surprise attack on American forces in the Middle East.

Centcom said the attack on X was a “strong response” to Iran’s shelling of US military bases in Jordan and ships off the coast of Hormuz on Tuesday.

The latest clash comes a day after the conflict escalated into the first publicly announced joint US-Saudi offensive targeting Iranian proxies in Iraq.

When the US and Israel launched a military attack on Iran in February, Trump said the war would only last a few weeks, but now it has been going on for five months with no end in sight.

It also said the navy had rammed three oil tankers off the coast of Hormuz, “disregarding warnings” and sailing through what it described as an “unsafe and illegal route” in a critical Gulf waterway.

It was three days into the war earlier this week. That follows 13 consecutive nights of US bombing that has targeted Iranian weapons and military sites. Several people were reported dead.

On Tuesday, Centcom said joint US-Saudi strikes had hit several terrorist logistics and weapons sites in eastern Iraq in a strong response to more than 30 IRGC-led aerial drone strikes in the past 72 hours.

The Iraqi paramilitary Popular Mobilization Force (PMF), which is dominated by Iran-backed Shia militias, has announced that at least 20 of its members have been killed in US and Saudi attacks on their bases.

Iraq’s president condemned the bombing of PMF bases as an “unacceptable attack and a clear violation of Iraqi sovereignty.”

Trump, however, told Fox News that the attack was “coordinated with the Iraqi government.”

Saudi Arabia, which considers itself the leading Sunni Muslim power, and Iran, the largest Shiite Muslim country, have been fighting for regional dominance for decades.
