Manchester United have announced the appointment of Michael Carrick as their permanent technical director on a two-year contract after guiding them to next season’s Champions League qualification.
Carrick, 44, took over on an interim basis following the sacking of Ruben Amorim last January and has been able to secure a string of outstanding results.

Manchester United were in chaos when Amorim was sacked after poor results over the Portuguese manager’s style and tactics and disagreements with club officials escalated during his 14 months in charge.
Carrick, who was also previously in charge of United on an interim basis for three games following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sacking in 2021, has impressed with his performance on and off the pitch.
The former English midfielder spent 12 years as a player at Old Trafford, during which he won 5 Premier League titles, the Champions League and the FA Cup.
