The latest social reality comes amid ‘difficult talks’, says expert, as US and Iran show progress in talks.
Washington, DC – President Donald Trump posted a picture of the United States flag on a map of Iran, with the question: “United States of the Middle East?”
The post on Truth Social on Saturday represented another potentially dangerous message from Trump amid ongoing talks about a permanent ceasefire. US-Israel war with Iranexperts said.

It has the ability to confuse allies and enemies alike because of Washington’s intervention in the Middle East, especially during the US invasion of Iraq from 2003 to 2011, and the pressure of the Trump administration to increase its influence abroad.
The proposal also appears to contradict the Trump administration’s repeated assertions that it does not want to stay in Iran for long. The US has maintained that it does not seek regime change in its war, which it launched jointly with Israel on February 28, but that it would welcome such change as the result of a military campaign.
Even for a president known for his social media posts and conflicting messages in the war, the post could have implications for ongoing negotiations aimed at ending the war, according to Vali Nasr, a professor of international and Middle Eastern studies at Johns Hopkins University.
He cited Trump’s threat in early April that “all civilization will die” if Iran did not agree to the deal by then. After a few hours, both sides agreed to stop fighting.
The relief has been in place since then, save little by little, as the US continues to block Iranian ports and Tehran effectively closes the Strait of Hormuz.
“First he announced that he wanted to end the development of Iran, now he is announcing that he wants to turn Iran into an American economy,” Nasr wrote on X.
“It is this bad behavior that undermines dialogue and unites the Iranian people in defending their country,” he added. “Amid difficult negotiations he questions America’s true intentions.”
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Fragile negotiations continue
On Saturday, both US and Iranian officials showed a new agreement can be reached.
Trump told CBS News that both sides are “getting very close”. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said changes could come soon, he said.
The spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran, Esmaeil Baghaei, said that the two sides are “currently working to finalize” the memorandum of understanding, and that “opinions are changing”.
However, there have been no official announcements regarding the key issues at stake, including the future of Iran’s nuclear program, the future of its uranium stockpile, and its future influence on the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump regularly uses his Truth Social account, which he started after he was briefly banned from Twitter, now X, after the 2020 election, to make big announcements, attack political opponents, and post AI-generated photos and videos.
The foreign policy of his second term has been determined by efforts to increase the influence of the US abroad, especially in America. This includes the military takeover of Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro, he continued threats against Cuba, and vowed to rule Greenland, a Danish autonomous territory in the North Atlantic.
The Trump administration has adopted the term Donroe Doctrinereferring to the 1823 Monroe Doctrine, which sought to limit European influence in the Western Hemisphere.
On Saturday, Trump also posted a photo of his face looking over the mountains in Greenland.
“Hello, Greenland!” it said.
