“Unacceptable mockery”… Zamalek demands punishment for the announcer who mocked its Brazilian player.

It’s not the first time..

Egypt’s Zamalek club has filed a formal complaint with the Supreme Council for Media Regulation against MBC Misr TV presenter Yasmin Ez following statements the club deemed “offensive and inappropriate” against its players and fans.

Egyptian media reported that Zamalek’s board of directors, led by Hussein Labib, decided to escalate again after the club’s management filed a previous complaint against the same broadcaster two weeks ago, then retracted it following an official apology.

However, new announcements on his “People’s Speech” program brought the crisis back to the fore.

During the controversial episode, Eze spoke about Zamalek’s performance in the first leg of the African Confederation Cup final against USM Algeria, using sarcastic remarks about the team and a number of its players, including Brazilian Juan Bezera.

He said that “Zamalek are moving like straws and are very successful”, adding that the team’s players “have not been seriously injured, as if they drank lion potion”.

It also mocked the player’s name Bezerra in what the club considered to be an “unacceptable mockery”.

According to reports, Zamalek’s complaint included clear demands for the Supreme Council for Media Regulation to open an official investigation and take the necessary legal and regulatory measures, stressing the need to respect clubs and their fans in television programs, even if the channels are non-Egyptian but broadcast from Egyptian territory.

In its complaint, the club stressed that such statements “fuel intolerance and tension among fans”, calling for stricter censorship of sports media content.

The move comes as Zamalek prepare for next Saturday’s CAF Confederation Cup final second leg against Algeria’s USM Algiers after losing the first leg with an unanswered goal.

The Egyptian team is looking to reverse the result and win the continental title for the second time in its history, amid a tense atmosphere on and off the field.
