Seven-time Ulster Championship winner Paul McGrane believes Monaghan have “no fear” when they face Armagh in Sunday’s Ulster senior football final.
Kieran McGeeney’s side are favorites to end their 18-year wait to lift the Anglo-Celt Cup as they have scored 100 points in their three Ulster games so far, including a brilliant 28-point win over Down in the semi-final.
But Monaghan bounced back from a poor league campaign to reach the final aiming to win the county’s first Ulster title since 1988.
McGrane, who captained the last Armagh to lift the Anglo-Celt Cup in 2008, said the experience of beating Armagh in the All-Ireland in 2023 and Monaghan in the Ulster SFC in 2021 would give them confidence in Clones.
“A Monaghan team coming in who are Ulster club champions, their own patch and to do what they did against Derry and the tenacity they did with the sideline points, they will enjoy playing Armagh,” he told BBC Sport NI.
“They won’t be afraid to play. The last two big games they’ve played; in Croke Park (a shootout win), they’ve come out on the right side and in the Peyrac Esler match (a thrilling 4-17 to 2-2 win).
“They will be hungry as Armagh get over the line and get themselves an Ulster title.”
