Ukraine drone attack hits Russian Baltic port, diplomat says | Story

Ukraine’s military has also hit two tanks near the port of Novorossiysk, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says.

Ukrainian forces have launched an attack on Russia’s Baltic Sea port of Primorsk, the governor says, as Kyiv and Moscow accuse each other of killing civilians in overnight airstrikes.

There was no oil spill from Sunday’s attack in Primorsk, a major oil hub, but it caused a fire in the city that was put out, Leningrad Governor Alexander Drozdenko said. More than 60 drones were shot down overnight in the northwest, he added.

Primorsk, one of Russia’s largest export routes, can handle one million barrels per day.

It has come under fire several times in recent months as Ukraine has stepped up threats to Russian energy security and other targets and talks led by the United States to end the conflict in Ukraine have stalled.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said his country’s military also rammed two shadow-carrying ships into the water on their way to the Black Sea port of Novorossiysk.

“These tanks were quickly used to transport oil – not anymore,” Zelenskyy said on the Telegraph. “Ukraine’s long-term capabilities will continue to be improved – at sea, in the air, and on land.”

The two neighbors have launched hundreds of bomb-laden drones almost daily in the four-year war.

Some Russian regions also reported drone attacks on Saturday and Sunday. Moscow Governor Andrei Vorobyov said on Saturday evening that a 77-year-old man died in a village in a drone strike.

Sergei Sobyanin, the mayor of Moscow, said four drones were shot down during a flight to the Russian capital.

Vasily Anokhin, the governor of western Smolensk, said three people, including a child, were injured Sunday in a drone attack on a building.

Attacks in Ukraine

A Russian warplane strike in Ukraine killed at least three people across the country, officials said Sunday.

An attack in Ukraine’s southern Odesa region, which is home to an export hub, killed two people, including a port truck driver, Governor Oleh Kiper said on social media.

“Enemy drones hit three residential buildings, and two others were destroyed. … Weapons and dockyard equipment were also destroyed,” he said.

Elsewhere, Russian airstrikes on the Kherson front in southern Ukraine also killed one person, officials said.

Russia shot down 268 drones and one missile during the night attack, the Ukrainian military said.

In eastern Ukraine, Russian troops were advancing on the city of Kostiantynivka in the Donetsk region, a Ukrainian military official said on Saturday.
