An amber weather warning for extreme heat has been extended by the Met Office, with forecasters predicting temperatures could reach 38C (100F) in parts of England next week.
The revised warning will be in effect from 01:00 BST on Monday until 23:59 BST on Thursday, reflecting the belief that exceptionally hot and humid conditions will continue into midweek.
Much of England and Wales is covered, although many northern areas are under warning on Wednesday and Thursday.
The warning means public impacts include significant health risks, disruption of daily activities and increased pressure on infrastructure.
Daytime temperatures are expected to exceed 30C (86F) across the warning area, with the hottest areas likely to reach 38C (100F).
Nighttime temperatures are forecast to be unusually high, with some urban areas struggling to drop below 20 or 21C (68-70F), resulting in warm nights.
The heat is spreading from continental Europe, which is extremely powerful monstrous.
Temperatures in parts of western France could rise to 43 or 44C (109-111F) over the next few days.
Paris can reach 40C (104F), which is unheard of for June.
