UK arrests 12 for ‘extremely threatening’ Muslim ‘threat’ | Issues of Islamophobia

The arrests come against a backdrop of rising racial tensions and hate violence in Britain.

British police have arrested 12 people in connection with a “right-wing” attack on a Muslim rally in eastern England over the weekend.

These people have been arrested throughout the country on Sunday and Monday, and the arrested are between the ages of 27 and 82. 11 of the suspects are men, while one woman has been arrested.

“After realizing the high threat of Islamist activity in Suffolk, we have moved very quickly to arrest more people in different areas across the country,” said Helen Flanagan, head of Counter Terrorism Policing London.

The Ijtima festival was attended by about 15,000 people. The event ended earlier than planned following the advice of the police, who were alerted to the potential threat.

Eight of the 11 men arrested were arrested on suspicion of terrorism. The remaining three were jailed on suspicion of attempted murder. The woman was arrested on suspicion of helping a criminal. No one has been charged as of press time.

Police said there was no evidence of a threat to the public, saying a number of addresses in the UK were still being searched as the investigation continued.

The arrest came after a hike conflict between races and hate crime in the UK, while the number of unincorporated areas is on the rise.

Followed by right-wing political parties such as Reform, this intolerance is also following several violence two years ago.

In January, the UK’s Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said it was handling the largest number of police-reported crimes in its history.

More than 4,350 cases were referred to the CPS between July and September last year, an increase of 14.7 per cent compared to the previous quarter.

Responding to the arrest, Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood said the police had “undoubtedly saved lives”.

“Twelve people have now been arrested. I know this is a very important issue for British Muslims. We must fight against hate and we must unite our faith in unity in an open, giving and tolerant world for all our communities,” he said.
