Tyson Fury stopped Mariusz Wach in a low-key fight in Thailand that was attended by no more than 1,500 fans – and which was not televised live anywhere in the world.
The 37-year-old British heavyweight dominated Patair Max Muay Thai for seven rounds at the stadium, before the 46-year-old Wach retired to his stool early in the eighth.
Friday’s fight was not broadcast on any television or radio platform and will instead be part of the third series of the Netflix reality show ‘At Home with the Furies’.
His 36th career win moves Fury closer to a potential blockbuster meeting with fellow Brit Anthony Joshua, who has his own comeback fight. Against Albanian Christian Prenga Saturday in Saudi Arabia.
“I took my test tonight. Let’s see if he can pass,” Fury said.
Many expected the ‘Gypsy King’ to fly straight to Jeddah for the Joshua fight, with the pair likely to announce their long-awaited showdown in the ring if Joshua wins.
Instead, Fury said he was going home.
“I met my wife. I was able to iron when I returned home. I have been away for six months out of the last seven”, he said.
“I’m not going to Jeddah, I’m going home to my wife and kids. I’m going to regroup and hopefully we’ll have a big fight next week.”
There are still questions over where the all-British fight will take place, with Eddie Hearn saying Joshua’s contract stipulates the UK, but industry whispers suggest a venue in America.
“We’re going wherever we’re going,” Fury said.
“Who knows? It could be in Vegas, New York, Ireland, London. Who knows where the fight will be?”
