Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua: Cardiff’s Principality Stadium eager for all-British fight

The Principality Stadium has previously hosted late night boxing, including Joe Calzaghe’s fight with Mikael Kessler in November 2007 which started at 02:00.

Joshua has previously fought twice in the Welsh capital, beating Carlos Takam in October 2017, as well as Joseph Parker a year later.

A spokesman for the WRU, which owns and operates the Principality Stadium, said: “We will be delighted to host the fight.

“We are very keen to attract more boxing to the stadium, which has a rich history in the sport, enhanced by its nearby rooftop, unrivaled visibility and unique city center location.”

With November set as the preferred date, however, the fight will be timed around Wales’ international rugby matches against Japan, New Zealand and Australia at the Nations Championship.

Last month, Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn, who represents Joshua, dismissed speculation that the fight could take place in the US.

He said the current contract, signed by all parties, says the fight must take place in the UK.

Both Fury and Joshua are set to return to the ring later this month ahead of a possible meeting later in the year.

Former WBC heavyweight champion Fury, 37, faces Poland’s Mariusz Wach in Thailand on July 24, while two-time world heavyweight champion Joshua, 36, takes on Christian Preng in Saudi Arabia the following day.
