As the second season of the Welsh horror drama comes to an end, the tone is more colorful than explosive as events related to the spread of the hoard continue to unfold. Young reporter Caryl Huws (Siân Reese-Williams) investigates Llŷr’s disappearance but this puts her on a collision course with Robert (Robert Glenister), who wants to keep the past intact. Enola Holmes 3 (Philip Bartini, 2026), Netflix

The young Victorian mystery also includes the brilliant author Jack Thorne and his director Watson Philip Barantini. Barantini may be new to Enola Holmes but not to Thorne, the two agreed. Netflix mega-hit Adolescence. That goes for the third film, which sees a detective (Millie Bobby Brown) interrupted at the wedding of the dreamy but jaded Lord Tewkesbury (Louis Partridge) by an unknown tragedy. Dr Watson (Himesh Patel) arrives in Malta to tell Enola that her brother, the famous Sherlock Holmes (Henry Cavill), has been kidnapped – and only Mrs Holmes (Helena Bonham Carter) believes she can save him. The Story of the Rooster and the Cow (Michael Winterbottom, 2005), 9pm, BBC Three
This is madness, similar to what Laurence Sterne wrote in the 18th century, The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman (in No. 19 on No. The Guardian’s 100 best books of all time), in which a British film crew tries to adapt the book to its visual form. But it was also the first time that Rob Brydon and Steve Coogan starred as up-and-comers, directed by Michael Winterbottom. That means we have this movie to thank for four the glorious series of The Trip. What a legacy. EEJ

You can’t call yourself a British film connoisseur if you haven’t seen this A hypnotic coming-of-age story. Sam Adewunmi is Femi, a British Nigerian who moves from Lincolnshire to London to Lagos in search of a stable perspective, while comedian Gbemisola Ikumelo is surprisingly good as Femi’s biological mother. The pictures show the charm of Terrence Malick, but the romantic details are all by writer-director Shola Amoo, which makes him a great talent. EEJ

Bang My Box: The Story of Robin Byrd (Jyllian Gunther and Stephanie Schwam, 2026), HBO Max
Robin Byrd’s story is a true New York story about sex and the city, so it’s only fitting that Carrie Bradshaw, AKA Sarah Jessica Parker, be on board as a producer on this callback to the open world. Byrd began broadcasting his weekly sex show on public television in 1977, and soon became not just a celebrity (Cheri Oteri played him on SNL) but an activist for LGBTQ+ rights. This means a decades-long battle with Time Warner Cable, which is now Warner Bros. Discovery, for example, the parent company of HBO Max, the broadcaster of the documentary. Only in New York! EEJ
