Another fascinating study of history is by scholar Lucy Worsley, in which she describes the British perspective – or the “unknown version” – of the American Revolution. Marking the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, the two-part series begins in New York where George Washington reads a “divorce letter”, then looks at the events of King George III’s reign leading up to the present day. David Beckham’s new English garden and the Saatchi Gallery’s garden inspired by Matisse’s The Dance are among the highlights the BBC will retain at this year’s exhibition. As it is, it is held at the Royal Hospital Chelsea for five days in May (although the whole district is also full of beautiful flowers). Take a deep breath. Ali Catterall

“Big John really made up his mind that he couldn’t be caught – he couldn’t be defeated.” It’s the final installment of this epic thriller about one of the most complicated bombshells the FBI has ever dealt with. Those involved in the case recall what happened when 100 agents closed in on John Birges Sr. and his former daughter-in-law, Kelli Cooper. HR
Destroyer (Karyn Kusama, 2018), 11.45pm, BBC Two
It’s amazing that Nicole Kidman hid her face behind the dark skin makeup that led to some of her most glamorous movie roles over the years. Karyn Kusama’s crime thriller follows Erin Bell – drunk cop, bad mother – as she is forced to reunite with a 17-year-old FBI agent who robbed a bank gone wrong. The plot teases us with cause and effect, as the tenacious Bell pursues the fugitive Silas (Toby Kebbell) regardless of his means or safety. Simon Wardell
