The three lions continue to dream
Germany manager Thomas Tuchel dropped a bombshell after England reached the semi-finals of the 2026 World Cup with a dramatic 2-1 win over Norway at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, declaring his utter displeasure with the Three Lions’ performance, describing the performance as “weak” despite the historic achievement.
Tuchel said in heated statements to the British ITV channel. “We made things difficult for us today. The result is great. We qualified for the semi-finals. It’s incredible, but I’m not happy with our performance in every way. The loyalty is there, but we made things too difficult for ourselves because of the way we played.”
Tactical errors and lack of speed
The German coach added sharply. “Tactical mistakes, lack of pace and consistency, we got lucky,” making it clear that qualification was more down to luck than a convincing team performance, despite Jude Bellingham’s brace saving the team from relegation.
Tuchel refused to talk about mentality as an excuse for the poor performance, saying bluntly: “Thinking, it’s a mental problem. Simply, how can we talk about mentality? It is not a mental problem. We can ignore it and justify it. Why are we talking about mindset? The problem is in the quality of our game. It is a matter of quality. We have to play better.”
Exciting quality amid heavy criticism
England fell behind with Norway’s Andreas Schildrup’s superb goal in the 36th minute before Bellingham equalized in first-half stoppage time (45+2), then the Real midfielder sealed qualification with his second early in extra time (94th minute).
England sets the semi-final date with the winner of the Switzerland-Argentina match.
