Limit the celebration
The joy of victory over Mexico turned into a nightmare for England after a moment of celebration cost them captain Jordan Henderson for the rest of the 2026 World Cup and forced manager Thomas Tuchel to make a tough decision.
The Three Lions suffered a painful blow after their 3-2 win over Mexico when veteran midfielder Henderson (36) tried to jump over the billboards and join the cheering fans, only to fall to the ground and suffer a serious wrist injury.
What started as a scene of celebration turned within seconds into a medical stretcher making its way to a Mexico City hospital, where Henderson will undergo surgery that will keep him out for the rest of the tournament.
Thomas Tuchel told BBC. “Jordan just fell and hurt his wrist and the injury seems to be very serious for the player’s career.”
According to “BBC:The extraordinary incident prompted Tuchel to take immediate and decisive action to ban players from jumping over the advertising hoardings during celebrations to prevent what the medical team described as an “avoidable disaster”.
Henderson spent a night in the hospital accompanied by a member of the medical staff, while the team delegation left for their camp in Kansas City without him. So England are losing one of the most important elements of their dressing room experience to a celebratory jump, in an incident that will make the players think twice before climbing any billboards in the future.
