England coach Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that he does not agree with Jude Bellingham’s opinion regarding the great efforts of the players. During the victory over Norway and qualifying for the semi-finals of the World CupBut at the same time, he emphasized that the team is capable of providing a better level and should do so.
Jude Bellingham once again pulled England out of trouble, scoring twice to secure a 2-1 win after Norway advanced, before he was informed shortly after the match that Tuchel was unhappy with his side’s performance.
Bellingham, who was awarded the best player of the match, said. “Well, it’s good… It was very difficult on the field. It was a tough game and all the players put in a lot of effort. So my appreciation and respect goes to everyone who was on the pitch because they put in a great effort again.”
Tuchel explained. During the press conference“Of course, no one disagrees with that. I admire the players’ effort, team spirit, belief and ability to overcome adversity, fight and find ways to win. This was top notch. They deserve all the praise.”
The German coach added: “But I’m also a football coach and I believe we can do better. Overall, I don’t see it being a high profile match. I think we have played better matches in the past, so my analytical mind and the coach in me still believe that we can and should play better football.”
Jude Bellingham and national team captain Harry Kane have dominated England’s goalscoring campaign at the tournament after netting 12 of the team’s 13 goals at the World Cup, and while Tuchel would like to see more attacking contributions from the rest of the squad, he does not mind the duo continuing to decide games.
“We need to develop our offensive activity to give players other than Bellingham and Kane better opportunities to get into the scoring zone.”
He continued. “But of course they are two decisive players, they like to take responsibility, have quality and appear in crucial moments, so there is no problem with that.”
He added: “We don’t need to regret because these two players represent our team and decide the matches in our favor. That’s impressive. They’re both top players and they’ve found a very effective way to play together.”
Tuchel returned to answer a new question about why he seemed unhappy despite this important victory, saying: “No, not at all, I’m not unhappy with the result or the team.”
He added: “Maybe I need more clarification. There’s no doubt that I’m proud and happy and I feel very connected to this team because the players are doing everything to take the next step forward. They refuse to lose, overcome obstacles and difficulties.”
“We want to get the best out of ourselves because great performances help you win matches. This is the truth, so my coach is not completely satisfied and I am not 100% satisfied with our game and I still stand by this opinion.”
