Trump’s plan to overhaul every .gov website leads to AI-generated threats

Starting one page, pointing to another odd one

Ars took a detailed look at the established landscape to see how the NDS has progressed so far.

Most of the dozen or so websites that NDS has launched are single-page, where visitors can do little more than fill out a registration form. A more useful offering would be TrumpRX, which includes a search tool that compares drug prices. For everything else, visitors should go to the old site.

There are also many newly registered domains—such as live.gov, onlyfarms.gov, aliens.gov, and why.gov—that are currently pointing to historical sites. Some of these old sites may have been replaced with NDS signatures, but the less attractive ones remain a great resource for Americans looking for government information or help online.

Only one website, 250.gov, which celebrates 250 years of US history, strangely defaults to dot-org instead of dot-gov, which is unusual for a government website and can undermine visitor trust.

Among the few major websites that NDS has set up is their own, ndstudio.gov. Meanwhile, the site documents the team’s innovations, shares a timeline of its US-based innovations, discusses the team’s AI and accessibility efforts, and encourages talented developers to “hire here.”

It also briefly held a $47 limited edition sale of MAHA and a $400 “collector’s copy” with Health and Human Services Secretary Robert Kennedy, Jr.’s autograph, NextGov reported. The store disappeared after the White House faced questions about where the sales profits would go. A White House spokesperson told NextGov that the posters “were not actually purchased,” as the store’s products did not include a “buy button.”

The only other similar site is merrychristmas.gov, which, beyond the home page, has one page for each of the 12 days of Christmas. Seemingly a non-profit project rather than a public service, the site also celebrates NDS’s design and culminates at Christmas with a website praising the group for building a site that reflects “the belief that smart design can strengthen democracy and improve the lives of ordinary people.”
