Infantino considered the 2026 World Cup the most successful ever
US President Donald Trump suggested the United States host a new World Cup “without Mexico and Canada” this Saturday morning GMT during a meeting with FIFA president Gianni Infantino, in a sarcastic statement that drew laughter from the audience.
Trump said during the press conference. “We have to host another World Cup … without Mexico and Canada.”
The American president continued. “We want to do it again. We will bring another country. Giani (Infantino, FIFA president) suggested China. A short trip. The players will love it.”

Trump said about his intervention in the case of American football player Folarin Balogun’s red card. “One of the most unforgettable moments was when he was given a red card. I had to call Gianni and just recommend it. It ended much better because there was no controversy. You’ve made another great decision (applying to the FIFA president, enough credit for that).
In turn, Gianni Infantino praised Trump, saying: “The American dream, Mr. President, has come true. We brought the world together… The 2026 World Cup is humanity’s biggest social and cultural event. Thank you for that, President Trump.”
The FIFA president said the 2026 World Cup had exceeded all expectations, citing “full stadiums, millions of fans and billions of spectators around the world”.
Trump and Infantino are expected to attend the 2026 World Cup final tomorrow, Sunday, between Argentina and Spain at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
