US President warns of ‘big problems’ if retailers don’t cut prices at the pumps, blames illegal hikes.

US President Donald Trump has told oil exporters to cut their prices immediately and warned of “big problems” ahead if they don’t.
“Oil producers must drop their prices, AT ONCE,” Trump posted on his Truth Social platform on Monday.

“There will be no counting (sic), which is totally unacceptable,” Trump wrote.
“If Retailers don’t do this, big problems are ahead! Start chasing the $2.50 Gallon number,” he wrote.
“Retailers need to act quickly on this statement, and do what they know is right – GET YOUR PRICE FROM OUR GREAT AMERICAN PEOPLE!”
Trump targeted California in particular, urging the state to cut taxes on fossil fuels.
“Soon the Tax will be higher than the Product, and the United States will not stand, nor will the people of California, who are being victimized by this stupid Tax, and by their Government,” Trump wrote.
California Governor Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, is one of Trump’s most vocal opponents in the president’s second term, including his push to boost fossil fuels.
California is also ramping up renewable energy and hopes to have a carbon-free electricity grid within 20 years.
But with gasoline prices rising since the US-Israel war against Iran, the Trump administration is seeking more domestic oil and has requested emergency powers to restart a California oil pipeline that was shut down due to a major spill in 2015.
Separately, Trump said last week that he had ordered an investigation of major oil companies over high oil prices.
“The Big Oil Companies are not lowering their prices at the pump to match the very low prices they pay for Oil,” he wrote in a Social Truth post on June 24.
“Those prices are dropping like a rock!” In other words, customers are being ‘hit.’ I have instructed the DOJ (Department of Justice) to begin looking into this,” he said.
Trump’s demand for lower US gasoline prices comes as he faces criticism over the war on Iran and its impact on the finances of millions of Americans, and as November’s midterm elections approach.
The president has repeatedly said that oil prices will “drop like a rock” after the conflict with Iran ends, but economists dispute Trump’s claims and predict the long-term consequences of the conflict.
