President Donald Trump has said that the United States will “liberate” ships stuck in the Strait of Hormuz from Monday, signaling that his administration will end Iran’s blockade of the waterway.
Mr Trump said on Sunday that the push – dubbed “Project Freedom” – would be “humanitarian”, warning Iran not to interfere with the mission.
It is not clear how the campaign will play out or whether it will affect relations with Tehran. If met with resistance from Iran, the move could undermine the ceasefire that began in April.
“Many of these ships are running low on food, and everything else necessary to keep large groups aboard clean and tidy,” the US president wrote in a tweet.
“I think it would go a long way in showing Goodwill on behalf of all those who have been fighting so hard in the past months. If, in any way, this humanitarian work is interfered with, that interference, unfortunately, will have to be dealt with vigorously.”
Trump said he told his delegation to inform the Iranian authorities that the US “will use all its efforts to get the Ship and Crew out of the Strait”.
The US military said he said earlier that it is “not ready” to accompany the containers across the street.

In the US, gasoline has risen to $4.44 a gallon, from a pre-war low of $3. to encourage inflation. The cost of electricity is causing disillusionment with the war as Trump’s job approval rating plummets, according to recent reports. pubic votes.
Trump has previously said he is comfortable with what happened competitive blockades in the Gulf, arguing that the US blockade is “more effective than bombing”.
